This failure is common and is documented in Audi's TSBs for the Q7. Unfortunately, it also sounds like the warranty companies are aware of it too, which is why some are seeing it specifically excluded from coverage. The fault rate might have improved in the newer models, I'm not sure.
That definitely is not a good news to hear....

I have a similar problem!

A 2007 Q7 4.2:
1. driver side handle lock black button NOT working
2. passenger side handle lock black button working
3. driver side handle unlock NOT working well, sometimes I have to pull it once then it will unlock
4. passenger side handle unlock working

Obviously frequent usage makes the failure!! Warranty expired and repairing cost is not cheap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cost is about $400/500 per handle.

no mystery why you find so many in the 'used' market with failed handles. either they didnt know or had to pay out of pocket and didnt bother.

My 2010 Q7 just had the rear handles replaced for this same problem. Seems the issue hasn't gone away over time. Dealership billed Audi $990 for two new handles and the painting cost.

As mentioned before, it will take a few days to complete - in my case, it took five days because they were out of stock of the handles and then took two days to paint/dry/test.

This is interesting. I had the passenger inside rear door handle replaced last fall because it would stick. The door flew open because the handle did not go back into position.

Good thing I called ahead before bringing in the car because yes, they had to order that part. Seems like EVERYTHING has to be ordered and you have to wait...luckily this was under warranty and I shudder to think what else I am going to have to cough up for as the car ages...this has never happened with any other vehicle I have owned.

Hopefully Audi will correct this issue with the next gen Q7 as it has been consistently bad on this gen...

I'll tell you what I won't do- after "enduring" a first year Q7, I will NOT be buying a first year second generation Q7, Maybe a 2015 or 16 but no way on a 2014.

Agreed, but in the case of the door handles, it has been an issue from 07-13...
