Default Fan Running on Q7 when car is OFF

So I have a 2013 Q7 TDI. I pulled into the garage this morning and shut the car off, I noticed a fan running pretty loud from the front engine area, car is still pretty new so no big. 5 min later my wife comes in and says it sounds like your car is still running. So now it's been running for over 7 min. I jump in start up the car and shut it down and the fan stops.
Put in a call to the dealer to see what it was, but he didn't know and was going to ask around.
Anyone??
Thx

My prior ride was an '04 Volvo XC90. It used to do that every now and then as well. Sometimes if it was very warm and I had left the AC button activated and turned off the ignition, the air would blow through like crazy into the cabin of the car.

I think this is normal.

My 2007 Q7's fan would sometimes run for a bit after being shut off. Then a couple of times it ran the fan so hard and long that it killed the battery. The dealer replaced an electrical relay and the problem has disappeared. They weren't 100% sure the relay was the problem, but replacing the fan controller was $$$$, so they deicded to try the relay first.

Could be a DPF Regeneration Cycle in progress - the cooling fans will run after shut-down to prevent excessive temps in the engine bay.

You don't get to choose when a TDI's DPF runs a regeneration cycle, and sometimes it will be caught in-progress when you stop driving the car. In this scenario, the car can't simply 'walk-away from' the regen cycle that was begun and act like nothing is going on. Those electric fans running up to hovercraft propulsion speeds is really the primary way you know your car is actually engaged in a DPF regen cycle, and the fans typically may run another 5-10 minutes after you exit the car, and at varying speeds up to their maximum rpm. This is not a sign of a problem, but rather what occurs if a regeneration cycle begins and then you stop driving before it can complete the full cycle. This will occur more often if you drive only short distances in the TDI rather than longer distance driving above 2,000 rpm.

The battery being low is a whole different conversation/thread on this car, and that normally relates to the proximity sensors in the 4 door handles going bad...not all at once, but over time, which causes them to make a parasitic battery drain 24/7...365 days per year. Easy to fix, but you may also need a new battery if it's old too, so you have to scan the car to see what's going on with it under the skin. You'll need a VAG(Volkswagen Auto Group)-compatible scan tool that can talk to this car and program a battery to the car as a minimum, or you'll be hopelessly lost in this endeavor. The Ross-Tech VCDS scan tool is the gold standard for DIYing on this car.
