Headlights

Sunlight is an “ outside influence”. Even so this shouldn’t happen. At least not this quickly.

Fact is, they made junk and will not stand behind it.
Do any other Audi models have this issue?

I’ve just finished this job on my wife's A6 (2006) and it was well worth it. I sourced the lens covers from ebay (China), heated up the headlight around the circumference with a heat gun and carefully pried the original covers out with trim removal pliers (they just fit in the area between the lens cover and headlight housing). Cleaned the glass lens, reflectors, changed all bulbs…
The permaseal: I removed it by pulling it out millimeter by millimeter in one continuous run, sometimes with the help of a flat head screwdriver. I first tried heating it up, slicing it with a scalpel, burning it off with a soldering iron… only to learn the most effective way was to slowly pull it out when COLD. It is a very resilient chewing gum-like material and it requires a lot of strength to pull out. It detaches bit by bit, with a “click” sound. The first headlight took me around 3 hours with trial and error, but I managed the second one in well under 30 minutes with just pulling.
I then restored the shape of the original plastic groove in the housing because it got slightly deformed during the heat gun phase. The application of new permaseal (DenBraven) was easy. I then placed the new Chinese glass into the headlamp housing and tied it with a ratchet tie down strap. It took two days for the permaseal to cure.
I will also do it on the Q7. I am expecting similar results.
