When I received my Q that was the only thing wrong with it. You could hear the latch release but the door won't drop. The dealer had to order some part, but they did fix it. Try pushing release button repeatedly. Mine opened on 3 or 4th push. Use a credit card to pry it open while pressing release. Put some soap on the release pins.

Open the passenger door. Remove the fuse cover. Insert a needle through the hole. Push in the latch. Ta daaaa. OR Use the palm of your other hand to lightly slap it up as you press the button. OR grip the edge of it with your fingers while pressing up with your thumb. Hit the button and reverse your grip into a tug down at teh same time.
All three methods work. I tested it. The problem is most likely something inside pressing against the door preventing the latch fully retracting.
I will post the pics as soon as I can remember where/who already posted them.
EDIT here it is!

If you have removed your glovebox or need to remove at any time it is important to make sure it is a comfortable fit for the door opening before you tighten up the torx. Yes I tested this too, if it is even slightly out of line the latch sticks.

brilliant, thanks alot much appreciated.
i thought it might have been something inside jamming it, but the glovebox is empty so nothing can be causing it to stick shut from the inside.
it seems it or miss when it opens, i have tried the manual methods of pushing up and pulling down, fingers and cards.
but really does seem completely random on when it opens.

I had the exact same problem upon delivery. When the Q went in for its first service, they had the parts ready and fixed it. Haven't had any issue since. The dealership indicated it was a know problem.
