Every 40k-60k miles is a good interval. Just drain, remove the bolts holding the pan, remove the filter, and replace the cleaned pan. Then Remove the larger fill plug, and use something to fill the trans.

I use an electric fuel pump I rigged up to pump fluid into the transmissions. I also bought another fill plug, drilled a hole in it, and welded a 3/8 nipple onto it and use an oring on it and pump fluid in, probably 6 quarts, and then start the engine, and remove the hose, let the excess drain off, (or continue adding if nothing comes out) and replace the plug. Use a rad temp gun and when the pans about 70F remove the fill plug again and drain any more excess and its perfect. Dont allow the trans fluid to get higher than 90F or you will underfill the trans.

Temp range for checking fill level is 35°C-45°C (95°F-113°F) or 50°C (122°F) for hot countries. 70°F will result in an over fill.
