Default Looking at a 07 Audi Q7 3.6 premium sport

127,000 miles.
A friend wants to trade in his 2007 Audi Q7 3.6 premium sport, wants to know if I want to buy it...
I did some quick googlings and see the 3.6 engine has that time bomb oil bolt.
at 127,000 miles is that bolt about to fall out? or the high miles say it is most likely not loose?
If I buy it, I can most likely get in there and loctite this bolt as I take care of all my cars.

any other faults with this first year model? I can repair almost anything but if this bolt falls out, that is some serious damage...

"Sport"? Do you mean S-Line? The 3.6 is a good engine and you see a lot of high mileage ones floating around online now in great running condition, 2007 is the first model year in USA.. Second model year in EU.. If it's a good deal, go for it! They're amazing automobiles! 2007-2009 Q7's are plagued with sunroof leak issues with the sunroof drains.. Just something to look out for.

kelly blue book called it a Sport, I dunno.

Minor leaks etc aren't much of an issue with me, I been maintaining my daughters GMC Envoy for years 250,000 miles so far... so many things go wrong on envoy/trail blazers but doing all my own repairs makes it not a big deal. I have 190,000 on my crown vic been solid except for the upper manifold cracking, was simple to replace though.

that oil pump bolt loosening is my main worry on this Q7 3.6liter, looks like a 2 day job to get at it and loctite it.

Yea, since you have experience with vehicles it would be a good thing.. German vehicles are on a whole other spectrum when it comes to maintnence and repairs. But considering your background I say go for it! Especially if it's a great deal. I honestly don't know much about the oil pump bolt issue.. Hopefully someone who owns a 3.6 will chime in.

Well it looks like the vehicle is worth $10k+, he wants to trade it in which looks like $7-8k value for that... I was hoping he takes less than trade in from me lol.

the oil pump bolt is the bolt holding the upper gear for the oil pump chain, which is also the same area the timing chain is in. supposedly the original bolt was grade 8 steel and not torqued in properly on some vehicles. the bolt either brakes over time or rattles loose. and as you may surmise a bolt loose in the timing chain area will wreak havoc... im guessing pistons slamming into the valves or maybe just destroying all the timing gears

Yea, anything involving the timing chain area scares me, not a place you want to screw up. Lol. If it's an S-Line model than its easily worth $15k+ if it has a clean car fax.. If it's a base model then probably closer to $10k-$11k... If you can pick it up for under $8k you'll be doing just fine.. Some 2007 Q7 (with lowerish miles) are going for $18k+.... do you know what options it has? VAG vehicles are known for running easily to 250k-300k miles.. If you pick it up cheap and fix what is wrong with it, you will have a great vehicle to last you a while.

I got it for $8500 it doesnt have s-line package but I see manufacture date of 02/07.
I think I read somewhere ones made in 2007 have the grade 10 steel bolt, but I can not find where I saw that...
I saw somewhere else someone had the dealer got in and replace the bolt at a cost of $850. that isn't much money to make sure the engine isnt a time bomb anymore, but really want to find out if it has the fixed bolt or not.
he got the car with 99miles on it...
