Not only were all the german companies doing it, they were working together: https://www.theverge.com/2017/7/24/1...-emissions-90s

Thats some ish. It really is...
Harsh regulations killed them. I dont know how this will play out in europe because they LOVE the diesels over there. LOVE THEM. In fact, half the cars on the road are diesels. This is a true statistic. I think this news will end all european diesel sales in the US, at least for now. But in Europe? Hard to say. I can't see diesel just going away

Have you seen what Europeans pay for fuel prices? Quick bit of conversion shows current price of Diesel in France is $5.37/g, compared to the $2.17/g at my local station today.
Of course they love Diesels, a gas guzzler would cost a fortune to operate.. When US Fuel prices approached $4g we started to love Diesels too, then came along #dieselgate and cheap fuel surge so efficient compact vehicles went out of style yet again.

sure i suppose that has a lot to do with it. point still remains half the cars out there are diesel
personally i like diesels for the torque and longevity. The mpg used to be a big bonus but the advancement of gas turbo engines and compression cycles are slowly closing the gap on that.

I can't find the thread, but I predicted MB was next back in 2016 and I also predicted that BMW correctly labelled their mileage and emissions and therefore wouldn't get snagged - though not so sure now after reading that verge thread.
