New to me 13 Q7 TDI
Wife and I just purchased a 13 Q7 TDI. Love it so far, just a couple weeks old. New to posting but Ive lurked on this forum and Vortex for a long time. I have driven VW or Audi (had a 98 A4 when I was younger) my whole driving life. I converted my wife over to the family and this is her first Audi. Shes loves it. Looking forward to posting in the future.

The only issue we've had was on a colder day, my wife did a ton of start/stop driving (with engine off just long enough to keep the DPF cold) and it popped a CEL for exhaust too cold. I told her, nicely, she needed to drive more briskly. Cleared the code, she's changed her driving style slightly, no issues since.

Wife and I picked up an Atlantis Blue 2013 Q7 TDI Premium Plus in Oct. 2018, with 56k miles. We do love it but since we have owned VWs and Audis for years. I always sleep with one eye open. So much so that a few years ago I purchased my own scan tool to read check engine light codes etc. We purchased a 2015 Passat TDI new and went through the dieselgate process, keeping the car and taking the fixes and the money. We love this car also! Then there is the used 2011 S4 that so far has been the best Audi we have owned.
Now specific to our Q7 TDI: Last week, I noticed some oil spots on the skid plate. Car was due for an oil change so I took it to my local independent Audi/VW shop. I asked them to identify the source of the oil and it is weeping from around the bell housing and lower oil pan. The leaking around the bell housing is indicative of a leaking main seal and a costly repair. Fortunately, due to dieselgate Audi extended the manufacturer warranty up to 10 years and 120k miles. Will be calling the local Audi to schedule repair which I am told is covered under warranty.

I've driven VW or Audi my entire driving life so I hear you on the vigilance at all times. Had a 96 VW Jetta that was a great car, no problems, well over 150k, hit a deer with it. Then had a '98 Audi A4 with a 1.8T. Went to 225k and the steering rack went, so I moved on. Motor was still going strong. We live in Michigan and it outperformed most of the domestic SUVs by tearing through the snow. Had a 2010 VW Jetta Wagon after that, cooling issues ended that car. 2014 VW Jetta after that, and I traded that in for me current '17 Passat that is a lot better for me being a big guy. Wife had never driven a VW before, I got her hooked on a '15 Jetta. Plow truck hit us and so we replaced it with a '16 VW Golf SportWagon. Recently had a kid and needed more room with the car seat, so she got a Q7. Loving it so far. She commutes 60 miles round trip every day to work, so looking forward to how she likes the TDI. I know it will be about the same mileage as out SportWagon but with the bigger tank I think she won't have to stop for fuel so often.
For sure right about VW Audi, have to stay on top of the maintenance. I love Audi, and love the Q7, but I would not have bought it without the 120k warranty. Just gives us peace of mind. We have 47k on it now, and good to know some of the major stuff is covered.
