Oil pressure warning light, rough idle and Audi of America
#14
I bought a certified pre-owned 2007 3.6 Q7 back in February. I have noticed the check oil pressure red symbol go on and beep for 3 seconds and then disappear immediatley while the vehicle has just been started on 2 separate occassions and they occurred a bit far apart from each occassion. The engine does make a mechanical noise for about two seconds, not sure on the length, and it sounds like it's the oil making it's way through the engine. My father in law has a 2008 Mercedes and sounds pretty similar upon start-up. Back to the Q7,I checked the engine oil and it was up to par. I am trembling at the fact that I may have the same issue as others posted. My vin fits with the early 2007 build dates,in the 37,000 range. The mileage is under 37.5K and under the 4 year/50K warranty. I do have Audi Care as well, not sure how that would help. Any information would be most helpful regarding your process to remediate with Audi. I know in California things usually are better in terms of customer service. I hope this is not the issue at hand with my Q7, but it may seem that way, it fits the description. Crossing my fingers. I have two toddlers who's mom depends on this vehicle.

I have a '09 Q7 and I noticed that every time I start the car when engine is cold I hear this kind of "rough idle" for about 30 - 40 seconds and then it goes away. Engine does not seem to be running rough during this time, it just sounds different. I have never seen oil pressure light come ON during this time.
Do I have a problem or is this normal cold engine start-up behavior?
Thanks.

Arrie, what you described is what I have been experiencing. I spoke to Audi Dealer about it and they claim it is normal for the engine. Doesnt seem normal to me but first Audi I have owned. Runs fine once backed out of the garage on driving. No oil light either.

I'm thinking this could be very normal cold start-up behavior but it also could not. It happens only when engine is cold.
Just wanted to post here in case someone could confirm it is normal for this 3.6 L engine.

HELP ME WITH THE SAME PROBLEM YOU HAVE IN YOUR Q7
Thank you for all of your replies. The dealer called me this morning and said they found the "TSB" regarding this problem. They ordered the parts and will do the repair when they get in. They lent us an A4 with less than 1,800 miles to use in the mean time. The service folks were overall very decent. I was just frustrated at first that they did not seem to be aware of this problem and wanted to replicate it first before ordering the parts. But now everything is on track. I would have not known about this without this forum. I was able to give them copies of your prior threads on this problem so again, thanks to all of you.
