Passenger side wiper arm broke completely off

Has anyone here had this happen to them? My wife told me that on her way home the wiper flew off during a heavy downpour. I thought it was the blade but when I checked it out I found this.

It cost $90 to replace. FYI the wiper motor will not engage when the hood is up.

You are not the first, nor will you be the last...My '07 4.2 did this, several others have experienced the same failure. My '07 3.6 has been okay under my ownership.

Yep - a bunch of us have had it happen to us. There are a couple of threads on this topic including a good DIY replacement write up. ECS Tuning seems to be the supplier of choice for the OEM replacement arm for $89, delivered.

It turns out that Audi Q7s are deciduous. In winter they shed their windscreen wipers on dark rainy nights.

Seems to only be a fault that affects the passenger side wiper arm, regardless of whether it's a LHD or RHD Q7. It's only the second minor thing to break on the car since I bought it 3 years and 100,000km ago. The other thing was an $18 earth strap, so I can't really complain about reliability...

Right hand drive Q7 passenger wiper arm snapped off at the base.

There was some force to the damage looking at the damage to the arm, which I recovered from the side of the road.

Where is the earth strap located so that I can inspect mine? Thanks.

Yes this recently happened to me as well, at about 73k miles on my '07.
I was just glad it didn't hit anything or anyone on it's way off of my car.

Replacement Arm

Had a similar problem today, one of the two connections to the arm has came off the passenger side. What's the best way to replace? Replace the full arm from the bolts upwards?

Thanks

Go ahead and replace the entire arm. It takes a 16mm socket to remove the bolts. Start alternating loosening the bolts one by one. Once you have removed the nuts note the location that the wipers are parked and make sure you do not move them during the swap.
