Default Q7 2008 ECU Water Exposure Risk

I have a Q7 2008 Premium.

First symptom it has was the battery being drained overnight. When I jump start the vehicle in the morning it turned off after 5 o 6 minutes.

I towed it to the dealer. They said the battery was dead. They placed a new one. When i picked it up I drove half mile and it turned off in the middle of the street. That was a really frustrating situation. I called to the dealer and they come back to pick up the vehicle.

They called me back and they found the the ECM/ECU had some water damage.

That was a US1,700.00 job and it took 10 days because they had to order the unit directly to the factory.

A couple days ago I got a low coolant alert, the engine temperature went up to the limit. I stopped immediately. I tow it meditatively to a German autos specialized shop that was a couple miles ago.

They called and they said one of the thermostat was damaged and they also asked me about the repairs history of the vehicle. I told them about the ECU replacement and the said they found some water/wet in the ECU unit and they said that would be better if i bring the auto to the audi dealer.

In the Audi dealer they changed the thermostat and its housing under a previous thermostat job warranty.

With all this said. Attached you have a couple photos. I think the ECU is a little bit expose to water damage or coolant leak.

I would like to know if there is a way how can add some extra protection to prevent water of coolant damage.

Any advice you can provide to be proactive on taking care of my Q7 is helpful.

Thanks.

Your ECU looks perfect, however! If the cowl drains were clogged there is a good chance it got flooded. Bring it to the Audi dealer that did the job and have them take care of the problem.
