Default Q7 TDI Buyers - don't forget your $1,150 tax credit!

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 for Individuals allows for a tax credit for taxpayers Who Purchase or Lease Hybrid Vehicles or Other Alternative Motor Vehicles http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/...153397,00.html. The IRS has acknowledged the certifications by manufacturers that certain advanced lean-burn technology vehicles qualify for the alternative motor vehicle tax credit. The Q7 TDI is one of the vehicles designated as having advanced lean-burn technology http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/...187546,00.html.

2009 vehicles listed here http://www.irs.gov/businesses/corpor...214284,00.html

2010 vehicles listed here http://www.irs.gov/businesses/corpor...214283,00.html

Absolutely! and if your income is less than $125,000 ($250,000 joint) for 09 you can also claim back your sales tax under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Doubt that applies to too many new Q7 owners though.

Thanks for that tip - will see what happens in 2010 (maybe the salary limit will go up!)

Yeah, the income phase out on the sales tax is a bit too low in my opinion.

too little too late? I purchased my Q7 TDI in December of 2009. I forgot to do the tax credit $1,150 (tax guy never told me)! Do happen to know if this can still be captured? I understand there is a phase-out at some point. HOwever, I still see the Q7 listed as "Alternative Lean Burn" tax credit for 2010! If based on purchase date (and in service), then I am Dec 2009. If based on volumes and not available anymore then I may be SOL (out of luck). Appeciated any advice or expertise around this.
Thanks for your time.

Here's the notice from Audi to dealers:

The Audi A3 TDI and Audi Q7 TDI are presently eligible for a federal Alternative Motor Vehicle tax credit. This tax credit begins to phase out once a manufacturer sells 60,000 eligible vehicles. Volkswagen Group (including Audi) has reached 60,000 sales of TDI vehicles, so the tax credit will drop to 50% beginning July 1st and will be eliminated after December 31st.

The following table summarizes the phase-out timeline.

100% Credit ----- 50% Credit ------------- 0% Credit
Through June 30 - July 1 through Dec 31 - After Dec 31
10MY A3 TDI $1,300 - $650 ------------------ $0
10MY Q7 TDI $1,150 - $575 ------------------ $0

Talk to your tax preparer - I would imagine you'd either file an amended 2009 return with the claim or possibly claim it on your 2010 return - not sure so that's why I would recommend talking to your tax pro. Since you bought the car before July 1 2010 you are eligible for the full $1150.
