Q7 TDI - Low oil level warning
2013 Q7 TDI threw up a warning light that the oil level was at minimum. A couple of questions:
1) Do I need to top it up right away or can I wait for a few days? The reason I ask is that the car is due for a service, but I will not be able to take it in for another week or so, and will probably drive it for about 500 miles in that time.
2) what could be the cause for this? This is the first time in about 3 years of ownership that this has happened to me.

May I suggest you open the bonnet and use the dipstick to check the level.
Then you will know if it is a sensor issue or truly low on oil.
Normally for a low oil level warning to come on the level really has to be low.
If it is low top it up as a liter of oil is way cheaper than a new engine.

When I bought oil at the dealer after the oil light illuminated on my then nearly new 2015, the parts guy says Audi and VW diesels typically burn a quart or so between oil changes. Info for musing; I will still always quickly investigate the oil level when the light is on.

The oil warning you are seeing is NOT catastrophic. Yes, you can wait 'til service next week. No big deal.

Audis consume oil, but TDIs are not known for it. Do you know how many miles are on your vehicle?

However, when pulling my 4,400 Kimberley Karavan to Alaska and back this summer (+10,000 miles RT) it flashed the low oil warning 3 times. Happily, I had planned for that and had enough spare oil on board to top it up each time.
