Default OffRoad Camping in CA - yes in a Q7

So I'm researching CA offroad camping that my Q7 with all-terrains, can handle. There are a lot of sites discussing, but looking for real experience and suggestions.

Thanks Q7 Mkx braintrust.

Offroad can mean lots of things, are you referring to Dispersed Camping? Where you can camp anywhere in forest land you want? Thats pretty easy, mostly forest service roads and less hardcore 4x4 trails unless your really bold

Im likely the most experienced Qx "offroader" active on these forums, I've got Air Suspension and in lift mode the clearance is quite impressive.. with my 17in All Terrains I got a tire deflator, like this:
Amazon Amazon
and drop my 55psi down to like 20psi or its rather rough, air back most of the way back up with OEM compressor and back up to 55psi at a fuel station.. Turn off Traction Control, Go slow/take your time, pick good lines and it'll have no problems on most trails appropriate for stock vehicles.. If I tried to take it down a black diamond trail I dont think I would make it very far.

If you have a front camera it works great when offroading to help you avoid smashing on big things.. with a VCDS you can raise the speed at which the parking cameras shut off and then they work at most reasonable offroad speeds.. Fold your mirrors in if they are wacking brush

I've got a D loop trailer hitch and a stretchable recovery strap just incase, also a tire plugging kit.. next up I really want to get a trail runner roof rack to put a full sized spare on, a high lift jack, lights, and radio antenna on.. Wish someone made a front brush bar, that did not interfere with parking and cruise controll sensors.. that would be awesome.

I wanted to try to get a skid plate off a Touareg and see if I could fit it up, but it looks like most of those were custom made group buys that occurred years ago.. finding one now is a bit of a trick.

Thanks Dread, I won't have your ground clearance but am imitating your wheel set-up. I'm very confident in off-road driving (driven the Rubicon in some good technicals) but never taken the family to a primitive site in the back county via OHV roads.

Seems like a good starting place:

California Back Roads, California Mountain Trails, Jeep Roads, Sierra Backroads 4WD Routes
