The internal working are: when you push the button on the shifter it pulls up the lever in the transmition. So some how you will have to make something that you will have to pull up. post pics when it is all done.
Great information, I'm thinking about making a brushed aluminum shifter **** for my Q5 and needed this informaiotn to pull it off. Anyone have information on the inner working of the ****? Since I'm making this myself, I'm a little paranoid to disasemble my stock shifter incase I want to switch back.

Sorry but I'm having a hard time following these instructions. Very strange way of using punctuations, and the numbers in the text don't match the pictures. Is -1- supposed to refer to A in the pic, and -2- to B....
Confused...

Just Installed S3 ****....
Took noted on your instructions and now I have a new **** looks great. Only if'y part was twisting the plastic eyelet from normal right thumb button press, all the 90 degrees facing front. From there I was able to install the new **** works great!
Thanks Bud!

05 Audi A4 B6 auto shift **** install
Hello I’m having trouble installing the auto shift ****. So far I’ve seen most videos and once I push down the ****, pull the thumb button back, push down the **** all the way and that’s where it goes bad. I release the thumb button and try to shift to a lower gear it gets pushed in all the way and it will not shift to lower gear.
