After reading of hundreds of cases of this failure - snaps clean off from fatigue - priced it at Audi ... $190 Australian just for supply. Had a local aluminium welder do a neat fix for $50. Probably the strongest part of the assembly now !
There should be free or cost replacement by Audi as this is clearly a defect.
note - weld heat does not affect adjacent bearing. No polymer or plastics in bearing. Cant see repair after putting back on the cover.
