Secondary Air Pump Replacement Cost
We've had an issue with a check engine light coming on. After getting the P-code I had the car checked by a local mechanic that deals in Audi's (not the dealer). Below is what they found:
---
Report:
Performed a fault survey.
Found 2 faults stored in the engine control unit.
001170 - Secondary Air Injection System: Bank 2
P0492 - 000 - Insufficient Flow - Intermittent
001169 - Secondary Air Injection System: Bank 1
P0491 - 000 - Insufficient Flow - Intermittent - MIL ON
Commanded the secondary air pump on and it does operate but sounds like it has bearing
issues.
Checked combi valve function, diaphragms are holding vac and can hear/feel change coming
from pipe when opened.
Found that there is a technical service bulletin relating to these faults.
There is an updated secondary air injection pump, intake hose, exhaust, hose and bracket
that is recommended to be replaced based upon the technical service bulletin.
There is a warranty extension for 10 years and 120,000 miles for carbon build up in the
secondary air injection ports for some vehicles.
Need to start by replacing the secondary air injection pump and rechecking for issues.
----
The cost of the replacement and work looks like the following:
-------
Engine-Airpump Estimate for removing the secondary air injection pump.
Replacing the secondary air injection pump.
Reassembling the vehicle.
Test driving and rechecking for issues.
$229.50
Parts: 1 Air Pump $847.00
1 Intake hose $80.40
1 Exhaust hose $80.40
1 Bracket $85.20 $1,093.00
Engine-Airpump Total $1,322.50
-----
Wanted to get views here of this diagnosis and appropriateness of the cost provided.
Thanks!

I have the same exact issue on my 2012 Audi Q7 Prestige, scan tool came back with the P0491 code.
Took it to the Audi dealership (Miramar, San Diego) and they quoted me just under $1600 for "RECOMMENDED SECONDARY AIR INJECTION PARTS (INJECTION PORT CAPS AND GASKETS)".
I'm not familiar with those parts they mentioned, but I think I am going to perform a smoke test on the lines myself and see if I can detect a leak in the system.
I'll give you an update if any results turn up, would appreciate if you could do the same! Can't find many fixes/discussions on this particular fault.
