Tire pressure -- door or manual?
What do you set your tire pressure to?
The sticker on my door says 50 psi (2015 Q7 TDI Premium Plus) But the manual says 35 front/35 rear (normal), and 44 front/49 rear (full load conditions). Which do you use? I suspect the door column is more accurate, but these are rather different numbers. (And while I'm talking about tires, I just bought winter tires for next year, downsizing to 255/55 r18's. I don't even have the right size rims yet, but now is a good time of year to get cheaper snow tires. :) -martin |
Defer to the Owner's Manual. The B pillar label shows MAX LOAD only on cars sent to the USA.

35-35 will yield a cushy ride but it will wear out tires much more quickly. On our 2011 on 20” wheels I always ran 44-44 unless heavily loaded or towing. Then I ran 44-49. We always got great tire life and personally I prefer the crisper feel. The vehicle feels much more agile. I’m running 44-44 on our new to us 2015 on 19” wheels too for the same reasons. |
Timely thread! I was just going to ask the same question. The dealer just deflated my tires to the specs in the manual and I was severely annoyed. |

yup. 640 miles is about our limit on ours too. That’s Birmingham to DFW. We have grandsons in Keller and make the run frequently. I don't even leave Texas and putting 625 miles in on one leg of my circuit. |
I'm running 55psi, but I threw the manual out when I put 17in tires on it, my valve stems and tires are rated to like 95psi so I'm no wear near max.. I cant remember last time I ran stockish tire setup so I've always just kinda winged it and found a PSI that worked best for me.. almost always a bit higher than the manual says.
I drop it down to 20-30psi when I'm on a trail for the extra comfort, but then air it right back up when I find asphalt again. |
Thanks all. I was concerned about even wear on the tires due to over/under-inflation.

I'm pretty sure in the US you go but the door sticker..The manual covers every model, which obviously is different.
