Default Towing with Audi Q7 3.0

Had my 1st towing experience towing my travel trailer (Dry weight 4500) with my 2019 Audi Q7 3.0. As recommended by Audi I have no Weight Distribution Hitch but do have a Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller. I pulled over on side of road and activated my emergency flasher. As I pulled out on road I failed to cut off hazard flashers and found that my brake controller was breaking in pace with flashers ..scary moments...reached out to Curt manufacturer and they started no fix to date for this issue..my question if I attempt to use the downhill descent button in my Audi will I have issues with it working in conjunction with this my break controller?

toss that curt in the garbage and install a real brake controller: https://redarcelectronics.com/produc...ake_controller

It does not have signal from brake pedal, just brake light.. and with flashers, it thinks your hitting the brakes.. there is no fix for this other than installing one in OEM wiring that uses brake pedal signal.

not an option as I lease and don't want the hassle of removing upon lease end. Curt Mfgr. has stated on etrailer forum that this is an issue with this wireless controller and no fix to date.

yeah anything that plugs into the trailer plug is never going to be able to distinguish between you pressing on brake pedal and emergency flashers going.. guess you cant ever use your flashers.

Downhill Decent mode is for offroading, why are you wanting to use that when towing?

Isn't downhill decent mode something programmed into the vehicle?
Or is there a special button I missed?

You have to turn off traction control, which really just enables off road mode and then downhill decent will be active and it'll allow a bit more wheel slippage before EDL kicks in.. Ive used it many times, but AFIK I'm the only one on these forums who hits up trails with their Q.. Downhill mode works well IMO, once you get used to the ABS firing off like a machine gun to keep you on track and from gaining speed.. just ignore it, keep driving and let it do its thing.

FWIW ABS Firing on its own for traction control purposes dont trigger brake lights, so they should not impact OP's brake controller.. but without a physical button to manually activate the trailer brakes, I would never take a trailer down a trail.. on anything technical you want to articulate trailer brakes independently and at will.

Was told by dealer that it would be useful in the mountains on downhill decent

Your in wrong sub then, but for the MK1 Q7 ESP has to be disabled, you have to be going under 20mph and you have to be on rough/slick terrain.. If your on pavement its completely pointless.

This is how it works:

The only conditions in which I've used this feature, are not conditions I would want to be towing through..
