Towing Boat with Q7 - TDI vs non TDI?
#31
I'm in the same perdicament with my S4. For where i live combined with my current family situation and hobbies there is no replacement for the S4. Its the perfect combination of practicality and sporty. I can throw a bike rack on it one weekend and take it to the race track the next-- Swap tires in the winter and throw on a ski rack and Mob to the top of my local mountain the day after a storm.

Since there is a lot of talk on the TDI, I thought I'd chime in on the 3.0T:
My Q7 3.0 supercharged is new to me, and I was a bit nervous about towing my 21' wakeboarding boat, around ~4,000 pounds, after having a GMC Yukon Denali, with a 6.0 V8... Well, I can report the Q7 tows just as good which is an absolute shocker, I couldn't believe it and still can't. It towed at 80mph fine, and had enough extra power when needed. That being said, I am planning on tuning it to get more, which would be nice.
Although I thought the S-line Prestige was fully loaded, mine does not have the adaptive suspension. The car does noticeably vibrate/shake when towing on bad pavement and hitting bumps. It's not torture but definitely noticeable.
All and all, I know the TDI tows well, but I was very happy with the 3.0T (although its not a turbo...). Impressive car to me after my 6 months of ownership

Thanks for posting. I wonder if the 3.0T is better than the V8 for towing.

2015 3.0 TFSI / 8 speed on AIR!
CA coast to west NC. Geared down through the Rockies and the long grades of southern MO, but I was passing big Dodge and Chevy hauling equal or less trailer on the up side! (Horse and cargo)
You will notice that my spare touched down a couple of times and shredded my cover!

Any Questions?
