I’m running the original battery in my 2011 TDI and it’s still ok. It’s been a little dodgy in the recent cold spells though. I’m not going to replace though unless it totally starts to fail since I’m just trying to nurse a few more months out of it before it gets bought back.

battery life is a crap shoot....
I had to replace the battery on my 2012 in 2016. You may experience many really odd things electrically when your battery is out of life as Q7's get quite finicky about voltage. Also its not just a buy one at auto zone thing as you have to tell your on-board computer that you switched out your battery and have a new one in it, or you may have lots of strange issues. I just replaced the battery in my 2006 JCW mini cooper s in December of last year, it was the original battery, so there is no rhyme or reason to it.

Replaced the battery in my 2014 last November when we got our first real cold snap and it didnt want to start one morning.. The rear gate giving me problems was the first thing I noticed, it'd open fine w/engine running but if it had been sitting for a while then it'd just unlock and not actually open w/the keyfob.. Wife was complaining about it for a lil bit before I realized it was battery related.. my last several batteries have lasted 3-4 years on average, and always start giving trouble when temps start hitting single digits (F).. If I was not needing to start it on arctic mornings I think I could probably get another year or two out of em.. Diesels are particularly hard on em, the higher compression and glow plugs require far more cold amps than a gasser.
I'm running a dashcam tho, that probably didnt help anything..
