Default try electronic contact cleaner from radio shack

Since it is already broken, you try this for $10 first.

disconnect it from the power and spray it in and let it dry.

I did this for the center console power window switch in my old saab and it eventually ran clear after all the coffee spill came out.

The edmunds q7 repair thread has many complaints about this and the price is around $1100 to repair at the dealer.

Good luck.

Default 2nd. I also noticed that Edmunds has a high incidence of this type of accident, yet on here,

there haven't been too many people complaining of it. A couple (one?) of the regular posters on Edmunds is pretty vocal about it, enough so that there's no use trying to hold a discussion with him. (I stopped trying)

Incidentally, the MMI controller itself -- 4L0919610b H77 [8 buttons] or 4L0919609M H77 [4 buttons] -- only runs about $465 from genuineaudiparts.com and the process to remove/reinstall it looks pretty simple. What I don't know is if you then need to recode the module...otherwise, I can't see how this is a 5-6 hour job, assuming $100/hr labor costs

Default I just found the guy you are speaking of. What a moron....

Insists its Audi's fault the MMI isn't spill-proof. He got one replaced for free and then ruined a second one and thinks it should be done for free again. Guess he didn't learn the first time that coffee/soda doesn't do well with electronics...

Default LOL chickdr. I *told* you that that guy on Edmunds is impossible to rationalize with

I don't think anyone here can argue that the MMI placement directly below the cup holders isn't the brightest idea Audi has come up with, but it didn't take him long for him to start with the personal attacks on you.

You work for Audi right? ;-)

Default MMI Design Flaw costs $1000 for each spill - Check EDMUNDS

Be careful if you spill any liquids (even water) on the MMI below the slanted armrest where cupholder is.... TERRIBLE DESIGN !!!

Even if you wipe up immediately the MMI is not sealed an will fail ... the dealer then charges $1000 to fix.. AUDI ARROGANCE says all customer's fault - Why notjust seal MMI ????
MB & BMW seals interior electronics

Here are a few posts from EDMUNDS...

Review

Like many of you I fell in love with the Q7. I've had it a year here's my issues: electrical system went out (brains of the car), fuel gage failed, 3 tire flat tires within 1 year. Also had the same problem as someone earlier as a very small amount of liquid spilled next to the drink cups. It shorted my system to the tune of $1,000. Love the car and hate the car at the same time.

Favorite Features

Overall look, sunfroof, navigation system, heated seats

Suggested Improvements

Seal off electrical by the cup holders. Allow room to remove items that fall between the front seats (black hole)

Review

My husband purchased this car for me and traded in our A4 cab for it. I loved it at first. Then a month into ownership, the trunk latch broke. It wouldn't close all the way so I had to drive the hour away to the nearest dealership (twice) to get it fixed. 2 weeks ago, my MMI system stopped working and it was stuck to only play CDs. I took it in today and was told you're out of luck because you spilled something on it. Had I known this was such a common problem, I wouldn't have bought this car. Now I have to shell out the money out of pocket to replace the MMI system. After reading a bunch of reviews, it seems to be an extremely common problem.

Default Sigh... either be more careful with liquids or stop bringing them with you

this is not a design flaw, it is user error. The car is not designed to be used as a dining room table.
