Nav DVD issue
I was feeling really smart, having just replaced the MMI circuit board in the console, due to previous owner having spilled a soft drink. All went well then I thought I would upgrade the nav DVD in the back. Much easier, right? Wrong. I've pushed the eject button with engine on and the engine off. I've held the eject button down for an extended period. Nothing happens. The disk is read by the player without and problem but I can't get it out.
What am I doing wrong? |
I had the same issue with my 2007,
When audi first starting shipping these autos stateside they had the nav unit (in the back) In "protected mode" meaning that you will need to go to the dealer and have them remove the protection allowing you to remove it anytime |
I believe Via VCDS you can enable the eject button.

protect mode? jesus why would the germans even do that? Oh yea, to get you to go to the dealer

Other than a laptop, what is the bare minimum to get a VCDS system?
|
Well, the app Carista. It's ok, you can code lighting regions, enable green menu, Windows via key fob, Nav disk eject. Etc. the app has an in app purchase of $20 and about $20 for the hardware. (Wifi OB2 device) A lot of people use VCDS systems from Ross-Tech, I think they start at around $349 for PC, $499 for Web version which can be used on Mac. That's probably your best bet.
|
Also, Carista doesn't let you put your own codes in, if you're looking at doing basic stuff, Carista will be fine. I enabled Northern European lighting (fogs on with high beams) etc etc. if you're looking to code battery, and other in depth coding, skip Carista and get a VCDS

i tell everyone this. When you buy a VW or Audi, do youself a favor and DO NOT BE CHEAP and spend the extra $350 on the vag com. You are only shooting yourself in the foot if you dont and depending on how lucky you are it will buy itself back pretty quickly.
Only exception i would make is if i wasn'ta car guy and would only own my audi during the initial warranty period, but even then, the cool mods you can do is already worth it for owning a VCDS. |
Since all I am looking for is to swap the nav DVD, I think $40 is all I am willing to spend, but thank you all for the very helpful suggestions!
