2017 Audi Q7 3.0T has high oil consumption

I just got a 2017 Q7 3.0TFSI in December 2017 to replace my 2007 4.2FSI Q7 (miss the engine). However, the new Q7 has been using quite an excessive amount of oil. At around 5000 miles, I already had to top it up from low (had about 3/4 remaining from dealer). I'm not sure if this is normal, but my A6 doesn't have this problem. At 7500 miles, it's already at a little above half full. I don't see or smell any oil leaks. What is going on? Could this be a problem with the supercharger? Thanks for your help!

No such issue on our thus far 9k miles and two oil changes (one per yr since we don't drive it too much). Never a message to add oil.

Yeah, I got the message at 6-7k miles and close to a year. I added a quart and moved on

I had to add a quart about a month before my 10k service. That was annoying.

I have about 700 miles on the odometer, noticed that mine is already bouncing between full and I tick down. How's your fuel mileage? This helped easy my concern...
I love John's explanation.

The bar graph only represents 1L from top tp bottom. From what you’re describing it looks like the car is using about 1 quart every 5 k mi. It’s a bit on the higher side, but not excessive. Mine uses about 1L every 10,000 km which is a little less than yours.

Just put in a qt today after 7k. Hotter the engine is, the faster it will burn. High heat and high rpm will of course burn much faster. This is norm for turbo engines.

I need to add oil. What brand and type does audi use? Thank you.

Castrol Edge. Weight etc. is in the manual. If you search the forum, you'll see a post of mine with a pic of the oil

I believe in the US dealers use Castrol Edge Full synthetic 5W-30LL, where "LL" per my recollections stands for Audi/VW spec compliance.

As for the engine wear prevention and making your car's engine work more efficiently one might try using Liqui Moly Cera Tec:

I tried Cera Tec on my previous two vehicles, but with no observable differences before/after. But I do not keep vehicles past 70K miles, thus they were comparably new. One of my friends who travels a lot due to his business requirements used this additive on his two years old Acura with 215K miles on it with significant improvements reported after 60-70 miles of driving after oil change. According to his report, a slightly better MPG and very noticeable improvement in engine smoothness/ lower noise was the result of his experiment.
