Default 2019 3.0 fuel tank capacity

Do you guys find that the pumps shut off at the 20 gallon mark, when you fill up?

If yes, do you refill again, to fully make sure your tank is holding fuel close to its full capacity, if your running on really low gas?

I had 10 miles remaining yesterday, so i pulled up at mobil, filled up with 93 and the nozzle shut off at exactly 20 gallons, it has happened before at shell too.

When your Q7 shows that 10 miles remaining as you mentioned, it will go well beyond that point. There is still a gallon or two of gas left in the tank. You really never want to keep driving past that point because there is a small risk that you are picking up sediment from the bottom of the gas tank into your fuel line. The filter should grab the sediment anyway before it gets in the lines, but just not good in practice I have read.

I was on a trip towards the Kancamagus highway in NH. I totally had a brain failure, forgetting to get gas. Then the only station before getting on the route was a no name station, and I have been **** about using only Top Tier fuel brands so I skipped it. I quickly got the final warning which says "FUEL IMMEDIATELY" but I made the whole route below the 0 miles left mark and bet I could have gone further. When I finally fueled up I got 21.7 gallons into that 22.5 capacity tank.

Yeah if you’re regularly putting in 20+ gallons you’re basically a woman

I've hit a $50 limit on some pumps, never a gallon limit. Does it let you squeeze the handle and put another .1 gallons in? If so its just a coincidence.

The most I've every gotten into the tank is just under 20 gals, even thought the indicator said I only had 10 miles of range left.

I did have a weird refueling thing happen last time I filled up. My tank was down to about 1/4, but I wanted to refuel for a trip the next morning. The pump cut off, and when I restarted the car I only had about 3/4 tank. This happened once more before I got the tank full. I am assuming it was an issue with the pump rather than my car.

Even more important than the sediment issue is the fact that most fuel pumps are inside the gas tank, bathed in fuel, which is used to help keep the pump cool. You risk overheating the pump when driving on fumes. I assume, though don't know for sure, that a similar setup is used by Audi for the Q7, so I try not to run that close to empty on a repeated basis.

+1! I've acquired this habit since my "diesel" days as it is very critical for TDI. Maintaining no less than ~1/4 of a tank became a second nature...
