Because the 2019 update isn't available on the website (yet?), but the 2018 update was? I'm not following the logic.

Here's what I'm saying. Audi makes nav updates every six months. The ones that come out around December are labeled with a single year, 2019. The ones that come out around June are labeled with two years, eg. 2018/2019. Both winter and summer updates are made available for OTA update. No Audi Connect subscription = no OTA updates.

It looks like if you are downloading from the website and installing via SD card, then only the summer updates are being made available. So if you don't have Audi Connect subscription, then you are only going to get once a year updates. The link you provided seemed to confirm that.

I can only speak for the US, but this is not correct here. Many folks on this forum, including me, have successfully downloaded the real 2019 maps OTA without an Audi Connect subscription. It’s not required. I believe that’s part of what spawned this thread - 2019 maps are available for download OTA for anyone who’s within their limit of 5 free updates, but the whole package isn’t available on the website.

The way I read it is that the very first post is about downloading the full 2018 maps from the website in Jan 2018 and installing via SD card.

^^ Is correct - My Audi Connect trial expired at the end of February, yet I was able to get the update OTA.

The 2019 Navigation update is now available for download via the MyAudi website. I had checked just a week or so ago and it wasn't there but now that we are in June, it is so I guess that's the time of year they get around to it.

I get a connection error when attempting to download OTA.

I didn't have that problem. It's still downloading as it estimated 3.5 hours to complete.

What you might be encountering is you are using an old download of the Java script. I learned last year that the initial download has a time-limited period it can be used. It may be hours or less and if you try to execute it after it has expired, you'll see a connection error.

Just to rule that out, initiate the map download again to get a new Java script and try it again.

I just bought the Q Friday and have only tried once. I’ll have to check it out again in a bit.

Damn! I downloaded 2019 map update VFR direct to my Q7 via OTA last Feb - took a total of about 40 minutes.
