I just got my Q7 a couple of days ago and am still in the process of learning all the new features. I really had trouble to understand the start/stop function. Today I parked the car, pressed P and left the engine on to get my kids in the class room. I returned in two minutes and when I open the door, the engine shut off. I tried to repeat the process a few times but each time seems different. Sometimes I left engine, it will warn to shut off engine before you leave. Sometimes it does not warn you. And sometimes the engine will be on and sometimes it will shut off when I open the door. Can anybody help to explain this? I found it is annoying that the engine shut off when I open the door. thanks a lot.

Look on your tach display, if the needle is pointing to 'READY' then your engine is really not off, it's only in standby due to S/S functionality. If the needle is pointing to 'OFF' then it's truly off.

YOu'll figure out its behavior, but you must read the manual to understand how the system works and under what parameters it operates. That will really clear things up
