XT4 starts around $35K, XT5 starts around $42K, Escalade starts around $75K. XT6 will be positioned between XT5 and Escalade, so I think more realistic starting price would be around $50K.

IMO Cadillac lost their way with pricing a while ago with the 3rd Gen CTS..

When they introduced the 2G CTS (2008-2013) as a 2008 model it was priced right and was a big hit, they couldn't sell enough. At that time a loaded 2G CTS topped out somewhere around $52K to $55K at sticker, but the dealers were always willing to work with you. But former Cadillac boss Johan de Nysschen wanted to move the 3G -2014 CTS up-market and increased the pricing accordingly with very little sales support.

So basically a customer that was turning in his 2G who wanted a new CTS was looking at spending $10K-$15K more for a comparably equipped 3G.. When customers complained Cadillac's answer was buy an ATS instead.. Although the ATS received good reviews, and was fun to drive, it was too small for a previous CTS owner to be happy with. And we all know what happened to the ATS.. Even the CT6 is going away, that was an incredible car, but once again Cadillac IMO priced themselves way out of the market on that one.. I mean an avg CT6 was over $80K, are they crazy!!

So since Caddy was forcing that previous CTS owner to spend more money, it also forced that person to look elsewhere. So they looked at Lexus, MB, BMW, Audi etc.. IMO Cadillac shot themselves in the foot because although a good car in it's own right Cadillac can't sell the CTS...

Why am I saying all this, because even though Johan de Nysschen is gone I don't think they've learned their lesson.. The XT4 may start in the mid - $30's but at my dealer most of the XT4's were over $45K and they had a few pretty well equipped premium luxury models at close to $52K. A Prem Luxury XT5 was close to $62K and a pretty well loaded Platinum was close to $70K.. Think about that, $70K for an XT5......So where is a loaded XT6 going to priced, close to $80K?

My parents have had their Prem Luxury XT5 for close to 2 years, and while it has been trouble free and drives nicer than the SRX it replaced IMO it is nowhere near as refined as my current Audi's or previous MB's I've owned. ... And I hated one of those MB's so that is saying a lot.

IMO the pricing geniuses at Cadillac need to rethink their pricing structure because they may sell some of the XT6's but they are not going to sell a lot..And even though the XT5 has been a good seller for them, if they keep increasing the price even though the XT5 and XT4 are CUV's and not sedans, history just might repeat itself and they'll have another CTS situation on their hands.

With the XT6 they're getting so much closer and it looks nicest so far of what they've come out with, but dropped the ball at the end...if they would have extended the leather down to the lower door panels (on the platinum) or used soft touch plastics and upgraded some switchgear sounds like the mag critics would have been pleased. I really like the base engine is a NA 6 vs a 4 banger, but the sport option should have also provided for an uprated output of 335hp which GM already has for this motor.

BTW the new MB GLE 450 uses hard plastics on the lower door panel as well even in top trim...WTF?
