Default After Market Remote Starter

Have many people added an aftermarket remote starter...if so how do they work. I assume that dealers will not install these. I'm in the Boston area if anyone from around here has had success I'd love to know who you worked with.

You need an extra key fob, either your spare or you buy another. This key fob will be ‘wrapped’ under the dash, standard procedure with an Audi, safe and no way around it. Any place that is a ‘car stereo’ shop does remote starters, including Best Buy. Audi’s are very electronically complex so make sure they’ve done Audi before. I had Best Buy Portland Maine guy do a q5, was his first Audi, said it was far more complex than any other car he’d worked on. It went absolutely fine though and definitely a worthy upgrade. You can wire it to also control the trunk, and to activate say the mirror heaters when started. There may be an ‘extra’ cost for bypasses, this is ok but make sure you ensure the quote you get upfront includes the bypasses. I recommend a viper/directed one way system installed and a vsm-550 module added. This will allow you to start the car from very far away in case u park far or are in the middle of a mall. It also gives u gps. There will be a small monthly subscription fee (u can pay for 3 years upfront) but it’s well worth it. If you are installing the smartstart module, ensure it is the vsm-550 not the dsm-250, and tell them NOT to run the remote starter antenna receiver up the windshield since it’s not necessary. When you return the car or sell it, an installer can take the entire system out and then you can put it in your new car. While ur doing it I also recommend them run a hardwired dash camera for a clean look, and install a power magic pro if you want recording 24 hours. Also a rear dash cam if you like. I am very happy with the b1w.

Before starting a new thread, how about doing a search. There are several long detailed threads on this board about this already.

You will need to loose a key, so if you only have two now it's recommended to get a third.
I love the Fortin modules. I am in Boston area but used a shop near Philly - Perzan Auto Radio and they are great.

Boomer in Nashua does them and from what I have heard Audi Nasua refers their clients to them, but not sure on the system they use.
Viper for phone app is very expensive compared to the "My Car" app that Fortin talks with.

And yes threads already exist, you should do a search...

I am thinking of biting the bullet and just using the spare key for the install - already have the viper remote start and want to be able to use it when it gets hot out. We don't use the 2nd key at all and I don't want to shell out another $500 for another key and reprogramming.

Just tint the car and leave the sunroof vented...
I have every ceramic tint on every window including the two sunroof sections and windshield... does just fine by me!
