Default Any info on how to enable VIM and disable Start/Stop with VCDS?

Hi guys!

I'm currently in the process of trading in my Q7 MKI for the newer version and there are some things I'd like to disable. Usually for me common things are Seat belt chime (always drive with the seat belt on the streets but don't usually wear it while manouvering out of the garage etc), VIM (video in motion) and now also the Start/Stop since previous cars never had it.

I've found many mods that can be done with VCDS but haven't found the way for these two:
  • enable VIM
  • disable start / stop

I've found some speculation but nothing confirmed. Does anyone know how to do it?

There are some "coding modules" at 30€ a piece that would do those things but I don't want to spend 60€ if I can just do it easily with VCDS.

For start/stop, the following coding works with OBD11. I would think you could to the same thing with VCDS.

Module 08/Air Conditioning
Adaptation
A/C comfort param for start/stop function
Old Value: 5
New Value: 0

Start/stop will not activate unless the HVAC is shut all the way off

Thanks, I'll try this when I get the car.
I read about this method somewhere but seemed strange to disable it through HVAC.
But to think about it, then maybe start / stop needs permission from certain modules to activate. With this change it probably won't get it no matter what.

It may not be a permanent fix. This is what people found to work for now. Holy grail is to find how to reverse the button function, to make it so it's off by default and on when button is pressed. Using above programming you can't activate start/stop at all (unless you turn off your HVAC and even then it just bleeps).

Ok, after quite a bit more research I found this solution that works on Q5, A7 and some other models:

- module 09-Cent. Elec.
- enter Security Code (shown up by default) (20113)
- Adaptation, Type Channel 34 and hit Read button, it should show the factory default number.
subtract 4 to the value --> Start&Stop always disabled
add 32 to the value --> remember last status
- test & save

In addition of these values, if you add 64 to the value, the Start & Stop button light will be reversed: off if Start & Stop is disabled, and on if Start & Stop is enabled.
There's a module for sale in Germany that does some coding via OBD port to disable it (https://www.kufatec.de/shop/en/diagn...ble-start-stop)

And compatibility list:
VW Golf 7 VII
VW Tiguan AD1
VW Touran 5T
VW Passat B8
VW T6
Seat Leon 5F
Seat Ateca KH7
Skoda Octavia 5E
Skoda Superb 3V
Skoda Kodiaq NS7
Audi A3 8v
Audi TT 8S (FV)
Audi A4 8K from Mj. 2013
Audi A5 8T from Mj. 2012
Audi Q5 8R from Mj. 2013
Audi A4 8W
Audi A5 F5
Audi A6 4G
Audi A7 4G
Audi A8 4H
Audi Q5 FY
Audi Q7 4M
So if that solution works for Q5, A7, A8 then it may be worth a try on Q7. Most likely they don't do many versions of the same module (cost efficiency).

I'll probably get my new Q7 some time next week and until then I can just do some logical thinking and research.

This coding may be for older platform. Remember new A4 and Q7 are build on a new MLBEVO platform were the electronics are all different since VW went with FlexRay for faster data transfers.

Have you been able to confirm if this works?

This works for Start/Stop. Right now I don't think there's a better way to disable it. I've did this and works without issues.

For VIM you need OBD11 but it only works on MIB unit with software version below 1116 so it doesn't probably work on 2018 models (according to the app info).

If you don't have VCDS or any other diagnostic tool then probably the best (and cheapest) solution is to get OBD11.

FYI this works on early mk11 but not the later versions. Couldn’t do it on my 22. Worked great on my 19
