This is great news - I use Waze quite a bit and not being able to use it the large screen was a huge disappointment. I think it will be a while until this is implemented though - first the OS12 release (around the time the new iPhone will be released, I imagine) and then it will be at least a few months before the apps catch up.
FYI, I updated to iOS 12 beta and neither Waze/Google maps worked on Carplay. It's likely the developers still need to publish a new version of the app but that probably won't happen until full release.

Looks like the updates come out in October for Waze. It's currently in beta (which I don't have, but maybe someone here does?) I did sign up for the beta program and am currently on a waitlist.
