Automatic Nav Map Update
Left the house this morning for a quick run to Total Wine (about 2 miles). A few minutes into my trip I got a message asking if I wanted to update the Nav maps - gave me option of over-the-air or SD card. I selected OTA and it started.
When I arrived at TW I noted the download icon was at about 25%. I wan't sure what would happen if I shut vehicle off, so sat in running Q for about 8 minutes until the icon disappeared. When I came back to Q and started it I got a message stating map update complete. I checked version in MMI and it reflects 2018/2019 maps. Cool! |
Awesome. Do you think it downloaded because of an active Audi connect subscription or the wifi in the car ?

The OTA map update feature is very cool. You have the option to wait for it to show up automatically or manually select as described in previous thread -
https://www.audiworld.com/forums/q7-...dates-2923986/ Hopefully, all future software updates are OTA and no more dealer visits. |
I got a message today as well but I was in the middle of driving and wasn't able to see the OTA option so I hit cancel. Will check again tomorrow.

I can't even get mine to download the damn user manual, and you guys are getting map updates OTA?

Don't need to have a message to start OTA map updates. Simply go to Audi Connect menu and select an appropriate sub-menu. All other Internet-enabled functions will be marked with "Free subscription expired" or something like that, but the map update will show active. Select OTA download of what you want to download. By default it will offer you last update maps segment selected, but you can choose what is named "other countries" and select either countries or US states segments. There is a limit of two segments at a time if my recollections are accurate. I have not been updating Canada West and East previously and I was able to do so this time just fine. In other words, maps update is not part of paid subscription, but a free independent element of internet services - just like tracking your car information which in some of the US can be obligatory obtained by police for an incident investigation.
