Default Best dashboard phone mount

I have always used ProClip dash mounts in my cars. Their mount for q7 (ProClip Center Dash Mount ProClip USA), however, does not work as well, as the mount can be pulled out easily by pulling downwards (pulling outwards is still OK). Not sure if it has to do with the exact position I installed it, which is ~1 inch to the left of the recommended position (to make my phone easier to reach).

Does anyone have good experience with ProClip or other dash mounts?

I love the Ram X-Grip windshield mount (I think they may offer a base for dashboard mounting too). But when my Q7 arrives I'm planning to just use Android Auto. With Android Auto and CarPlay support, why do you need to mount your phone?

I am not a fan of the vent style mounts at all! I have tried them and they stink. My favorite of all that I have tried is this one. simple easy and low profile.

Is this removable without damaging the dash surface?

FYI, ProClip is not one of those mounts that attach to a vent blade.

I use Android Auto all the time, but I also like to check news etc while waiting at long traffic lights.

Yeah I was able to get it off no problem. And yeah sorry I wasn't saying that the Pro clip stinks or was a vent style I was just saying I tried the vent ones and didn't like them. I tend to sweat and get swamp *** a lot so I don't like anything covering my precious vents!

I use this: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Just once in a while, doesn't seem to be touching the vent blades. If carplay didn't suck I wouldn't need it at all, its pretty much for when I need waze's help.

Be careful with anything using the vent blades. A cell phone is relatively heavy and there are more vibrations in a car than people realize. I had a highly rated clip that latched onto the vents of my prior Audi vehicle with soft rubber. It still scratched off whatever coating Audi put over my vent blades to make them appear matte.

On a side note, why is there no option to change the media button switch to access Car Play instead of an SD card? Seems like a stupid omission.
