Default Bluetooth Music Playback "Choppy"

Hi all.

I have an iPhone 7Plus with an up to date iOS. I have noticed in the past few weeks that when playing music/podcasts connected via bluetooth that the sound drops out fairly regularly for a fraction of a second. Sometimes when the sound comes back the song/podcast plays at faster speed for a fraction of a second to a second (as if it's "catching up" somehow). The whole thing is completely out of the blue and incredibly annoying.

I searched the threads but could not find this specific issue.

I originally thought it was because the phone was in my pocket, so I removed it and placed it in the cupholders near the gear shift (a few inches away from the MMI).

Not sure if Apple updated something, thus screwing this up, or what the issue could be. I have done hard reboots and re-pairing of my phone, to no avail.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Have you tried plugging it into CarPlay and seeing if the problem persists?
Have you tried pairing it with another Bluetooth device and seeing if the problem persists?

Good points, especially the second one. This will allow OP to test if the problem is with the vehicle or iphone 7.

Good thoughts. I haven't detected an issue when using carplay (plugged in), though I rarely use it that way. I plugged it in over the weekend after all the buggy bluetooth.

I will test my wife's phone this weekend and report back.

Thanks all.

I have fairly frequent drops outs on Bluetooth. Also an iPhone.

I have an iPhone SE and I never had an issue with it using a BT to FM transmitter in my previous vehicle.

My wife's highlander occasionally would behave very badly with it, but I would just turn the car off and restart and everything works as expected.

I've heard it skip one or twice with my Q7 but I've not used it much.

I have wireless bose earphones and occasionally it skips a lot. (usually at the gym where there's 100 people wearing other BT devices, but sometimes other things interfere, I had major issues when my microwave was going at home once and as soon as it stopped it was fine, but still random fits too)

I tend to use wired connections when possible, but taking the above into account wouldn't surprise me if apple had some trash BT in their phones.

I've found that my Bluetooth skips on any speaker/stereo system if I have too many Bluetooth items connected. If I have my watch and my stereo connected with anything else Bluetooth in the area it can get choppy, especially when messages come in.

I have exactly the same issue. I end up using CarPlay but it would be nice if Bluetooth worked flawlessly. Even CarPlay occasionally doesn't load upon plugging in the phone. I have to replug or restart the car to fix.
