Default Car turning off by itself when park?

Not sure if I am imagining this.

Sometimes when I park the Q7, and push the park button on the gear selector, and then press the ignition button to turn off the car before getting out, the car actually starts. Isn't the ignition button how you turn off the car?

Now sure, the engine automatic stop/start had already stopped the engine, but still, I don't see that as a reason to restart the car when I push the button to power the car down.

If the car already stopped, and you press the button (with your foot on the brake), its will start up again. That's normal start routine

So maybe that is my problem. Foot probably was on brake.

Question - does that mean that you never need to turn the car off with the button? I have been doing that as that was what my Ford did. But does everyone just put the car into park, get out and lock the door without touching anything?

You still need to press the button (with your foot off the brake) to tell the car you are leaving so it cuts off power to everything, like radio, A/C, lights etc.. Unless, pressing the lock on FOB does that for you, you can test it. I am comparing it to my X5, and it actually requires two pushes to completely turn everything off. One press to turn off the engine, 2nd press to turn off everything else, which you can also turn off by locking the car on FOB or touching the handle.

I have an A3 but I imagine it should be the same? When I have auto start/stop on and when I park my car and put my parking brake on, if I open the door without pressing the ignition button it automatically shuts my car off.

As Fords, BMWs etc are all different then maybe it’s time to read the manual for the car in question?

Or ask other people who own the same model car.
