Default TDI -> 3.0T

Buyback process complete, and I am a week into driving a 3.0T. Ultimately I am very happy with the move. I do miss the low end torque and of course the mpg of the TDI. However, the technology and comfort have swayed me. I’ve only put 200 miles on it (I live 5 miles from work), and I am taking easy breaking in the engine. Off the line, my TDI was quick, the 3.0T seems a little sluggish. Will it get better as it’s broken in?

Put it in sport mode.

+1. The tranny is very conservative and hides a very strong engine. Switching to Dynamic changes the shift points and really adds a lot to the Q7.

Congrats on the new Q7..

As the other have said, try sport mode.. In "D" it feels sluggish to me too, but in "S" it feels much quicker and lighter on its feet, I rarely drive in "D" anymore.

Same here, I'm on my third tank with my Q7 and not even 1000 miles yet. My commute to work is 7 miles suburban driving and getting about 17mpg with the Q7. I was getting on a regular basis 21 - 23 mpg with the TDI. Missing the fuel mileage of the diesel but like the tech on the Q7 but we'll see in the long term. My dealer does have 3 brand new 2016 loaded TDIs that will go on sale once the EPA approves the fix. This is backup just in case.

Thanks all! I set drive select to Dynamic on my way in. Definitely more pep. I've been reading further and I will play with Individual mode next. I like the pep, but I suspect that will have me returning to the pump more often, especially with such a short commute. It would be really nice if I could set Individual to Dynamic until about 35mph then have it switch to Auto thereafter.

The transmission will adapt over time. The transmission upshifts to 2nd gear just off idle, and when we first got the car it was very pronounced to the point of being annoying. After a few months it became acceptable. It wasn't just me getting used to the shift points either, it was definitely shifting a bit later than when new.

I don't even care about the fuel economy, its Dynamic SPORT mode all day every day. For reference, I just broke 22k on mine and tires are a little over half worn. Brakes have 7mm of pad left. My average mpg is 20.8 with average speed of 37. This is with having the Racechip installed about 14k miles ago.
