Default Dirty door bottom

So it has been raining a lot two weeks ago here in Florida and I have been driving on wet roads, not flooded. And after each day of driving I see build up of sand around the wheel wells.

So yesterday I decided to give my car a wash. After finishing the wash, I dried the car. When I went to dry the door I noticed that the bottom was completely covered with mud! I couldn't believed that water/mud had accumulated on the bottom of the door and door sill. I have never seen that in all of my 20 years of owning cars.

I have to say this is a poorly designed by Audi and it looks like the wheels are the culprit as it pushes the water against the door.

While I agree, never seen it that bad, I've always opened my doors and washed up to the weather seal to help prevent rusting

I usually wipe the door jambs and under the doors after every wash and I have noticed this too. But can't really say it gets any dirtier than any of the other cars or SUV's I've owned over the years.. My wife's previous Lexus SUV looked just as bad after driving through rain and especially when the roads are dirty after snow..

I think part of the issue is the textured plastic strip. It tends to hold dirt.

It actually appears to be doing its job, keeping the dirt out of the door entry area, and other parts of the door

+1. It's actually a good design. No exposed rubber which will break down over time, it doesn't trap water, and it seals well. It just needs to be wiped during a wash.

I am guessing the long movable plastic part under the door acts as sound barrier / dampener. Another layer to dampen the road noise.

It's designed that way to keep the door sill clean so that the back of your pants legs don't get dirty.

Exactly! It's a great idea. I alwas had dirty pants getting in and out of the car with my X5 and XC90 T8.
