Part of the country could come into play. When you live in a place, like me, with one dealer 2.5 hours away and another 2 hours away, and each of them having their closest competition 5-6 hour drives away, they tend to hold the line much harder on pricing.
Your only choice is to buy from a distant dealer and then have it serviced locally. Some people do that, but some prefer to buy from the local dealer to get better service.
That said, due to the hit in resale value of buying at the end of what will be close to a two year model year, I'll probably wait for the '18 if the dealer doesn't give me a bigger discount than they normally do.

the '18 will come out in the fall. Not sure about loss in resale...you car has a month/date of manufacture stamped on it, in case someone is concerned about early production vehicles, but at this point the Q is a second year car with many of the initial kinks worked out. The year may only be meaninful if you will dump it early
