Do all 3.0 Q7’s burn oil?

2018 3.0... 6800mi and I'm down 2/3 Qt... will see if it makes it to the first oil change in a couple of months without requiring a top off... A few things to think about... changing oil every 10K vs 3-5K (your engine might be using some oil but it gets changed before it's noticeably low) You have an electronic "dip stick" and an app so you're more aware of the oil level... The engine holds 7.2 Quarts of oil so if you're one quart low that's ~13% vs an engine that holds 4-5 Quarts 20-25%... I really like John's explanation... check this out:

Q7 oil
I have a 2018 Q7 and it used a quart of oil within the first 5,000 miles. After the 10,000 mile service it now burnt a quart within 4000 miles. I have no oil consumption with my Porsche 911 or MB S550

Had to add 1 quart before the 10k oil change and now at 14180 I get the add 1qtr of oil light again....this is not acceptable. Back to the dealer I go. Owning numerous cars before you only added oil for aggressive driving or oil leak. Anybody having the same on 2019 models?

I don't remember the exact mileage but I added a quart around 7,000 to 8,000.. Had oil changed at 9,500 miles, now around 18,500 and so far I haven't had to add any.

Hello. I'm new to the group. We purchased our 2019 Q7 3.0 a few months ago and love the car. We were strongly considering the new BMW X7 but ultimately went with the Audi. Yesterday we returned from vacation with a 700-mile drive. During that time I received the message to please add a quart. The car only has 6,200 miles on it and this is our second road trip this year so many are highway miles at elevated speeds. I'm not unnerved by this occurrence but am concerned. The Aussie John video above is helpful but I'd still prefer to have a car that doesn't burn oil, even if it gets slightly worse gas mileage.

My wife has put about 60,000 miles on a 2018 Q7 we bought new, and since we got it the add oil light comes on without fail every 5,000 - 7,000 miles. I have tried looking for signs that it was burning oil but never had any luck so it is comforting - I guess - to find that this is typical. We do live in a big city as well, so i guess that may be a factor.

How accurate is the "digital" dipstick?
I had the same engine in my 2011 Audi S4 and i added an actual oil dipstick. It worked great.
Has anyone done the same on the Q7? I still have not looked very much under the hood of our new 2019, so i wonder if i can/should add an actual dipstick. Not sure if there is even an opening for it.

There is an opening. It's got a removable cap. Yes, you can get a real dipstick. The issue is getting one the correct length so that it reads correctly.
