The Q7 is better overall and the biggest detraction for the XC90 was the engine and I drove the T6 Inscription.

Heard from a former Volvo owner who had less than 5k on his XC90 T6 Inscription, who traded it for an in stock Q7, that after calling multiple Volvo and Audi dealers, the most he could get was $50k on his $68k purchase price. I know you will take a bath when you get into a situation such as this, but $18k in 5 months and 4800 miles...wow!

The current market is flooded with XC90s, which doesn't help either. We keep hearing that Volvo is also struggling with quality issues as well and some serious reliability concerns as well.

I am not a Volvo basher having owned and enjoyed a 98 S70 T5 with a manual transmission for 12.5 years. The inline 5 with a turbo and a manual transmission was very fun to drive and reliable as well.
CR recently rated the XC90 one of the worst reliable cars and the Q7 one of the best reliable cars.

I drove the MDX and several others also, and the Q7 was just so much nicer than all the others in the less than $70k range I was looking at. I am not so much a fan of the outside, but then again I am inside all the time. And that inside is just spectacular!

I think the exterior is more angular than the previous Q7 and it does look more like a sport wagon with a higher center of gravity. With the right exterior color, I think the Titanium Black Optic package makes the exterior more rugged looking, but still very much like an Audi.

I am surprised XC90 got such a bad predicted reliability. I considered it at one point, but dropped it after test driving. Imo, the overworked 4-cylinder is not a good choice of engine for its size and weight.

I dislike the gen1 Q7 due to its roundish shape... Imo the gen2 has edgy and high-tech look.

Although the XC90's reliability score was dismal, the Cadillac Escalade actually got the honor of the least reliable car in their survey

After sitting in the XC90 for 5 minutes, I was concerned with the build quality. 5 more minutes in the Q7 and it wasn't even a question...

Q7 comes with a 4cyl as well... I am guessing at the end of the 4M run the 4cyl models will outsell the 6cyl.
