The metallic in white paint enhances the white and appears richer/fuller in the sun. The plain white looks a bit cheap IMO as well. Just different tastes at the end of the day. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder as they say.

On first impression Carrara White is more pleasing, a bit softer (yellow) white. Glacier White is much harsher at first, more of a grey tone. Only when you compare them in direct sunlight you can see more definition coming from the Glacier (due to metal flakes in the paint). I couldn't see Tofana in person, and it became unavailable before I place my order, so I can't comment. However after few days of chewing on it, I have decided on Glacier.

Also, if you think about it, it's kind of like Carrara is 4,300K HIDs and Glacier is closer to 5,000K HIDs if that makes sense

I had a glacier white Q7 loaner for a week. I had to double take many times to see any metallic in it. Takes bright direct sunlight, being very close up and even then the viewing angle matters. Its definitely one the least "metallic" metallic paints I have seen. Perhaps for some this will be a preference. Just do not expect the glacier to have the metallic richness that the tofana has in the images above.

I encourage anyone looking at these whites to go to a dealer and find any models in them to compare in person before ordering.

Quick bump to this thread. I have a Carrara White on order (not yet frozen to changes) and thinking about going with Glacier instead...

As mentioned in the thread, the Glacier looks like it has a nice blue hint to it while Carrara is straight white.

I concur. doesnt matter what name they call it, its just basic cheap white compared to glacier. not that glacier is pearl or anything but it definetly doesnt look as cheap as carrara white.

After a very long string of black sedans, SUVs & Corvettes, we now have Glacier White on our Q7 & had it also on our A4 - Love it. The subtle metallic makes it very classy. Unfortunately Glacier White isn't available on the 2018 Q5 so we had to settle for Ibis White. Not hating it & it looks good on the smaller SUV but I really wish Glacier White had been available

We bought a Q3 in glacier white. Once in a while, I see it in just the right light and understand the name. It can look exactly like a backlit snow drift or cornice with a slightly blue cast filtering through the bright white surface and some shiny crystals mixed in.

I've also found that it can hide some dust and grime much like a metallic silver car would. I've hit it with a spray of water and been shocked at how filthy the water looked running off the paint. I really didn't think it was that dusty yet. This is very different from my old volcano black mica A4 and my coworker's plain white Ford, both of which start to look matte and off-color as soon as some dust or pollen starts to coat it.

I ordered the car on 9/27 and have been on waitlist/frozen to changes since. I decided to switch to Glacier White from Carrara White and the rep told me it was frozen to changes yesterday. Bummer
