Color can be set to Day, Night, Automatic. Day works as it should, Night works as it should, Automatic has recently become stuck in night mode.

Reboot MMI to fix? Ideas?

It goes with the headlights. Is your headlight switch perhaps in the "on" rather than "auto" position?

You, sir, are a genius! Had a flat fixed and they must have changed lights trying to turn them off.

No, not a genius, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night. :-)

I use the Nav mode to know if my headlights are on, for example when it's raining. In my state, it's the law that headlights are supposed to be on when it's raining. And of course, in construction zones.
