Google Voice Search

Is subscribing to Connect Prime the only way to get google voice address lookups? Is there any workaround w/new sim card?

Trying to read through threads but mostly just seeing complaints about the service. Thank you

Correct, a Connect Prime subscription is the only way. The latest MMI requires a license and uses a built-in eSIM, so the only way to get these services is by paying for them. There is an external SIM slot, but so far folks have only be able to enable with vagcom for the Wifi hotspot.

Apple CarPlay allows you to get directions via voice through the Q interface. I would think Andriod Auto would?

I use apple car play with Waze and use the OEM Nav at the same time so I can see the map easy and make my own decision as to which system i want to follow at any point.

Apple Car Play does not support Waze, only Apple Maps and it disables the MMI Nav when in use. What you are saying is you use Waze on your iPhone separate and in parallel with the MMI. That has nothing to do with Car Play.

As I tried, there are 3 ways for Android Auto voice search to work:
1. Just say "OK Google", then say your destination, via cellphone (not Q's) interface directly
2. Long press the voice control button on the steering wheel when Android Auto is on, it would trigger the Android Auto voice search
3. Press the right menu button of the touch pad, it triggers as well

Might be more. :)

Using waze

I think by using waze with car play he means he runs the app in background and the voice will come thru the MMI. Since the pic doesn't, he just uses the nominal MMI map. Pls
correct if I have this wrong. Would be awesome if there was a way to hack car play to get waze running by default
