I will chime in this weekend with my experience. I will be driving 800 miles from East to West on Friday with our new Q7. If it's an issue, I should get a lot of heat transfer driving into the sun.
Stay tuned.

All cars have dark front dashes under the windshield to prevent glare I assume. Driving around even after being in shade will quickly heat them up so hot you can't keep your hand on it. And to be ****, it's IR no UV rays. I have a greenhouse with covering that rejects UV, I know what I'm talking about when it comes to heat!

What's weird is the thread started or someone said the sensation felt like getting a sunburn on the face. Doesn't sound right.

I drove our new Q7 home from Philly to Chicago yesterday in the hot sun. It was 90 in Philly when I left and I was driving into the sun all day. I did not experience any heat gain / radiation and I did as @GBMILTON suggested - I kept putting my hand against the windshield to see if there was a magnifying glass affect and there was not. I also periodically touched the (black) dash to see it that was getting too hot and it was not. At some points the sun was coming in at the angle of the A pillar, so I did feel some warmth on the side of my face thru the side window, but nothing I would call a magnifying affect. It was the same as direct sun coming thru glass - it did a little warm, bit I flipped the sun visor down and over to that window and problem solved!

Car is a P+ without HUD

I hope that answers the question!

I will be getting my front windshield tinted for this specific reason! It gets pretty warm up in the dash on sunny days. Build date on our car was march 2016. (Hopefully the build date will tell us if it's only an issue with early builds)

Those of you with the issue please post the manufacturer and part number from your windshield along with your build date.

Those of you considering getting your front windshield tinted need to keep in mind the nighttime visibility. I had clear heat block tint on another car and had it removed because it distorted the view at night. Basically it made all the street lights and stop lights "star out". It was really annoying and I won't do it again.
