HERE map "here" already?
Someone opined on another forum, that the TSB software update to fix the overhead camera view glitch replaced Google Earth with the rumored HERE system German auto makers will, supposedly, use to replace GE in 2018 and forward MMI systems, again, supposedly, in 2020. The new view does have the annoying copyright and (perhaps) annoying horizon view, but to me it still looks like Google Earth. Any inside info on this? Thx!

The Google Earth satellite view was replaced with the Google Maps satellite view in the most recent TSB, which is subtly different, but not from HERE. Some folks complain that it doesn't offer the same resolution, and some complain about more prominent copyright messages, but I let my subscription run out and I don't have any personal experience with it other than the pictures that I see posted in the forum. The maps themselves are and have always been from HERE.

Thanks for the info! No complaints on mine - I actually think it improved the resolution. The copyright string is somewhat distracting, but I actually like the route highlights better, and the horizon was on my BMW maps before 2015, so no biggie either. So alas, no preview of what might replace Google Earth in 2020....

Audi has replaced Google with HERE in the latest MMI system in the all-new A6,7,8 and Q8. This will find its way into all upcoming Audi models, including most likely the face-lifted Q7. All other models as far as I know will still loose the satellite view end of next year.

Will 2019 Q7s loose it? Or will there be an update one can get applied to the older MMI system? Just trying to understand what impact, if any, there may be for anyone with the old MMI system (so non face-lifted Q7).

According to a statement from the Audi social media rep on Audizine, 2019 & newer models are equipped to receive the new satellite maps. 2018 & older will lose them in 2020.
Interesting that in the MMI setting in my 2019 Q8 now refers to “satellite maps” rather than “Google Earth”. |

As far as I know there hasn't been any announcement by Audi regarding an update for older systems. Last time I inquired, their position was that all current models will loose it and new models will support a new system.
And lest those who wait for the 2020 gloat too much, your turn will come in a few years if history is any guide.... |
