Ok stolen from here.
Wasn't channel 3 though, IDE00499-Display Correction of consumptions and operating range:
Adjust Consumption in DIS
[17 - Instruments]
[Adaptation - 10] -> Channel 3
change 100 to xxx (see samples below)
Sample 1 - Calculation based on volume per distance (e.g. l/100km):
DIS: 9,3 l/100 km.
Real: 9,8 l/100 km. (100 * 9,8 / 9,3 = 105,38)
Channel 3 will be changed from 100 to 105
Sample 2 - Calculation based on distance per volume (e.g. MPG):
DIS: 23 MPG.
Real: 24 MPG. (100 * 23 / 24 = 95,83)
Channel 3 will be changed from 100 to 96

I have made a few trips where I have averaged 27.5 mpg. Portland to Sacramento was the first and I have made 2 trips to Seattle from Portland averaging the same.

Well I know the answer now after all this research. AAA tested brands. Turns out that TOP-TIER has 5x the EPA-mandated detergents, and that makes a significant difference. And it also turns out that, while it is possible for a maker to add those detergents without paying for the TOP-TIER license, none of them do! So get TOP-TIER gasoline. All of the major brands are TOP-TIER, as far as I know. And all TOP-TIER companies have agreed to use the same level of detergents in their 87 as in their premium.
However, with a Q7 at least, 87 vs 91 is just personal preference on if you want to pay extra for the octane, which the car sometimes, but not always, needs to make the maximum rated HP. The hotter and drier it is out, and the more often you load the engine close to 100% (especially towing), the more often the car benefits from the extra octane. I am trying to measure the difference with my iPhone accelerometers. I have not finished my testing yet, but I would bet a lot that no one reading this could detect which gas is in the car from driving it.

Yes. This seems like cheating to make people feel good about the MPG. The 9% is not likely an accident. 10% or more off probably kicks in some enforcement.

Ok after doing the modifications in post #31 I finally filled up my tank and now my computer was 0.1 mpg better than fuelly.
I'm sure it will still be slightly off, but that's just due to inaccuracies of fuelly as well

here in NY, the 91 octane at many stations is ethanol-free, so I plan to use that. Ethanol is a nightmare for carburetors for all our equipment, such as snowmobiles, lawn tractors/mowers, weedwackers, etc. Does it have the same effect on the Q7? And it's disappointing to learn that the car's MPG display is so far off...there's no excuse for that...just like the misleading chip in the TDI...

Range is also way off. It starts at 500 Mi. and I get about 320. The last 200 miles of range drops off very fast. This is for my local travel where I get about 18 mpg (Audi).
