Do you use the black plug on the side of the block or vacuum it out from the oil filter area.

I like your idea of using the drain plug every 10,000 miles. I plan on vacuuming out every 5,000 and filter and full draining every 10,000 miles.

Use the dip stick just under the air filter on the right side. There is a little black tab you pull out. I find it easiest to take the air filter housing loose and set to the left side.

The oil filter on this vehicle was probably the least oily filter I have ever pulled out. The BMW's are typically pretty soaked with oil and the oil gets all over the hoses and what not when you pull them out if you are not quick and have some towels down. This filter was practically dry. I was expecting to have oil everywhere based on the angle and amount of hoses that are under the filter housing on this vehicle.

Idk if I will do the 10k oil change. Previous oil tests on much more harsh vehicles typically come back very very clean at 7,500 with synthetic oil but I'm just not sure I can bring myself to go past that distance when planning to hold onto this vehicle a while.

There is a thread on DIY oil change for this vehicle BTW.
