New S-Line Wheels Are Narrower...
 

2017+ Q7 will have 21"x9" 285.40.21... Why did Audi decide to go with a narrower wheel and tire over the previous generation? 21x10 w/ 295.35.21.

Run flats?

they definitely are run flat tires but not sure what that has to do with it... my x5m had 315 width on an 11" width wheel and they came with run flat tires from the factory.

I can't even find hardly a single version of that tire size outside of perelli. Anyone know of an all season in that size?

I was hoping to get the 21" and replace the OEMs with Conti DWSs, but it doesn't seem that they come in that size. 😪

Run flats are on the standard 20" with all season tires. We ordered the 21" with the summer tires (Florida residents) to get away from the run flats. Had them on two vettes & immediately switched to Michelin Pilot Sports with an air pump and a can of green slime.

Honestly I am so upset and annoyed at Audi for the first time for putting the run-flat tires on the Q7 for the 19 and 20 inch rim sizes. This is the worst decision ever... Runflats are still horrible in snow and have bad longetitivty with more noise and vibration then the standard tires. I have a 2015 BMW X5 and the runflat all season Michelin Latitude Tour HP does so much worse then the 2013 Ml350 with the regular version of the Michelin latitude tour HP tire in the same size 255/50R19.... I cannot fathom the fact that they actually push this technology when it still hasn't improved in the past 8 years. The handling is a bit numb with runflat (unnatural). The tires are still hard to fix and repair and replace.

I am dumping the runflats on the X5 next week and getting nonrunflat Michelin Premier LTX tires. I was going to go with the Q7 after the X5 lease is up in few years but this is getting me to think twice about it. I rather have a spare in the trunk as opposed to a mobility kit. I ordered the X5 with the spare tire set in the cargo floor compartment so that i can use it when needed. I do 25k miles a year of driving and only got 1 flat in the past 5 years. My Audi A7 and A8 are great on regular tires and when there is a puncture the tires dont deflate like the older days and still the car can run to the nearest place for repair or patching.

first thing i did on the X5M was remove the RFT and put real tires on. in theory they're great but in reality they're awful. especially if you live in areas with poor road conditions after or during the winter.

the funniest part is the car handled so much better... it's a fat pig to begin with but it's athletic for it's size... once i put the better tires on the vehicle was much more capable in the twisties.

i am curious if a similar solution could be had for this Q7 along with lowering it to give the handling characteristics of a sport wagon.

Anyone know the bolt pattern of the new 21" wheel? Considering getting aftermarket wheels and winter tires as I am not impressed with the look of the Audi package wheel.
