The best bet is that there will be a 2018 A7 TDI. It's not going to happen until the diesel-gate affair is settled and the only vehicle Audi brings to the US that would benefit significantly from a diesel is the Q7 sold as a good towing vehicle. The TFSI is a great engine for the other models. They have to believe that what VAG did with diesels has made any sane person gun-shy of buying a diesel. Some of us might prefer diesels in other models but they aren't going to sell enough of those to make certification worthwhile. Audi could get the cost of certifying back on a Q7 TDI. Much as I love my A6 TDI and lots of the other Audi models, what fits into my lifestyle and needs for a next car is the Q7 TDI so I'm hoping it comes here. To be clear, I'm just guessing that an Audi official wouldn't have said what he said unless they were seriously considering it.
