All modern cars can run on 89. You will get the same MPG, but might take a minor performance loss. Unless you are driving a very high compression or turbocharged sports car lower octanes are fine. I feel just about every car now has a recommended 93oct. It is a scam.

Only done 93, and maybe 91 (which is the recommended minimum) when I can find it. That's what the manual says, and I follow it on all my cars

I always filled it with exxon 93 or sunoco 93.. Exxon fuel performs better than sunoco imo..

I use 93 all the time, not many stations with 91 around here, I used 91 on a road trip last summer.. I prefer not to use lower than 91..

All major fuels are the same save the detergent. The only exception is off brands often buy cheaply blended gas and diesel, but it is not that common. Mainly, transmix that is split and reblended to raise the octane. All refined fuels run on a common pipeline. Diesel, Jet A, and Gasoline, Detergent for each brand is injected at a fueling terminal.

I use 91 or 93. I did use 87 a couple of times in the winter when the engine is more forgiving to octane rating. I only use Top Tier gas. Currently BP and have been getting what seems to be slightly improved gas mileage.

I use Costco 91 octane. Very handy since just one mile from my home. I go early Saturday/Sunday morning - in and out quick, takes 10 minutes total.

Interesting. I had my new car delivery orientation with Audi Denver, and they told me that at our altitude I could safely use 85 octane gas. In fact, she said that's what they send all their new cars out of the showroom with. When at sea level, they would defer to the manual suggestion of 87 or 91 octane, with 91 being important if carrying lots of cargo, or hauling a camper.

They are correct. The higher the altitude the lower octane you need. I also do not see why carrying a load would make any different on the octane level needed. I did not know anyone even sold 85 oct. I am moving to Breck in one month and I will just use 87.
